Description:
Provide genetic counseling and cancer risk assessment to individuals and families who may have inherited cancer risk. A genetic counselor and oncologist review family histories, offer options for genetic testing, and develop guidelines for cancer prevention and screening.

Often, the earlier cancer is detected, the better the success rates are for treatment. If your family has a history of cancer, you too may be at risk. Approximately 5-10% of all cancers are due to a hereditary factor. Our cancer genetics counselor helps identify individuals with hereditary cancer risk. This service may be especially helpful for families with:

  • Cancer before age 50
  • Individuals with more than primary cancer
  • Several realtives with the same type of cancer
  • Relatives with known hereditary cancer

Appointments with our cancer genetics counselor can be made to discuss hereditary cancer, genetic testing options, cancer surveillance guidelines and risk reduction.
