Description:Provides public health education in the community and on the phone regarding DES (diethylstilbestrol) exposure in utero. DES has been shown to increase the risk of cervical, vaginal (remove ovarian) & breast cancer, as well an infertility and pregnancy problems, in the daughters of women who were given DES as an estrogen supplement to prevent miscarriage during pregnancy or mixed with prenatal vitamins. DES was given as a supplement from 1938 through the 1970s and beyond. DES Granddaughters are being studied by the National Cancer Institute DES Follow-up Study to see if any of these risks or others, such as ovarian cancer, are found to the next generation.
