Description:
Children's Hospice and Palliative Services' Consultation Program is available to health care providers and families to help manage and support hospice and palliative care services to children and their families through collaboration, early intervention, education, and support. They offer training and support for adult hospices who are choosing to accept children. They have access to a 24 hour back up call system for questions on pediatric symptom management.

Their team provides consultation to children who are in need of hospice or palliative care while they are inpatients. They work with any hospital providing pediatric care with all areas within the hospital system, including pediatric intensive care, newborn intensive care, oncology, and medical-surgical units.

The team provides suggestions and direction to the existing health care team in order to maximize comfort and continuity of care for the patient and family. Their goal is to identify children with life-threatening or terminal conditions early to enable good coordination of care. Also, they want to ensure that families have a wide a range of possible care options with which to address their child’s and their family’s needs.
