The programs offer pain and palliative care consultation and support for children and their families living with life threatening diseases.
Services include a multi-disciplinary team approach to care in the home and hospital setting, in collaboration with the child's primary care providers. Nursing visits, social workers and chaplain's services, child life specialists, and volunteers are part of the team. A physician specializing in pain and palliative care needs of children is also part of the team.
The Pain and Palliative Care Team is committed to providing continuity of care and strives for seamless care from the child and family's perspective.
Pain services include an inpatient rounding team, as well as the chronic pain clinic and consultations. Palliative care focuses on aggressive pain and symptom management, holistic, supportive care for the child and family, and improved linkages and coordination among all sites of care: home, hospital, clinics, school. Palliative Care can also include pediatric hospice care as needed.
Anyone can refer a child to the program.
Staff will assist the family and care team in identifying needs and appropriate services.
